Saturday, June 14th. Jigged up all the Mackerel we could want in the deep water channel between Misery & Bakers - both tinker & horse sizes. Caught one schoolie live-lining at that location. Then moved to the eastern side of Ram Island at the mouth of Manchester Harbor. Was half way to high tide with a strong incoming current. Caught two fat 36" keepers, plus some shorts on the fresh-dead baits. Chummed quite a bit, but the big fish hit whole tinkers. One of the big ones was during a retreive. The one that got away was the real story though. The fish ran with a couple hundred feet of line and shook the hook before my buddy could turn it...It was definately bigger than the fish we landed.

went out friday afternoon and caught hundreds of mack's about a mile out of the annisquam river on the rockport side. Then tryed trolling with live mack's outside gloucester harbor. Got 2 good hits but no hook ups. Actually, there was one hook up but it broke the line. think it was a blue.

Tog |
Spent a few hours catching small schoolies yesterday under the Kernwood Bridge drifting worms. Caught one tog, about 12". I was not expecting it, and have never caught one. This was an unbelievable fight for such a small fish. It did not run far (took about 15' of line) but there was no way for me to slow it down when it ran, let alone stop it.
There is lots of bait in the Danvers River.

Went out on Sat all day got nothing. I plugged durring the turn in Winthrop and ended up in Marblehead later that day. No luck but it was a good day. Woke up early on Sunday hit another local spot I was using chunk bait. The water was very calm. I saw a few schoolies out there and got one keeper nore more than 32". Fat guy though. I pulled 3 macs and a few peices of herring outta it.
I was using a new reel. Penn Sargus. I used it a few weekes ago on some bluefish and it handled the quick bursts of power just fine. I have 14lbs Suffix braid on it so they stripped some line. As for the Striper I was very impressed the way it handled. I may need a new drag system soon but it was great. Cant go wrong for the money. I am heading out there agin right now.

truth |
the activity has slowed a bit, maybe the guys are less inclined to drive to their customary spots or run their boats due to gas prices?
anyway, if anyone finds himself on the South Shore for any reason, try Scituate Harbor....doormat flounder to be had!

Found the mooring! |
Not sure if the block is attached, but I found the ball with chain leading into the water "I was unable to yank it out" over on the west shore along with about 10 other moorings. At first I was shocked so many moorings could drift over to shore, especially mine which was suppose to be by the Rockmore, but then I thought this might be something the harbormaster might have done to get rid of non-used moorings. They are all basically in a line just above the low tide mark, does anyone know if these were all placed there intentionally?

Mooring |
Was wondering if any of you knew of any moorings for sale in Salem/Marblehead/Beverly. I bought one over the winter but it can't be located, so the search continues. Thank you.

I woke up early on Sat and headed to the Cape for the day. I went out around Mashpee. Lil slow in the morning had a good hookup but lost it. I made up for the loss in the afternoon. I had a good 2 hours of continous bluefish action. I didnt see one Bass. I was using 12lb suffix braid and an asortment of topwater plugs. I had a blast. I will be out on the Northshore this week in a few spots I am sure it will be just as fun. It aways is...

Went yak flounder fishing in G harbor Saturday and got enough for a couple of dinners. Sure glad I'm not making my living from flounder skinning. Went out Monday in Mhead by Browns in the lee (wind was honking)and picked up two keepers. Put the larger 33" back and kept the 30 inch. It felt pretty good for May.
It gets better from here to Oct.
Enjoy

picking up |
Up here on the N. Shore things are picking up nicely. Macs invaded Glosta Harbor yesterday but are gone as of this morning. Loaded up on big mackerel for the grill and for bait. Jigged up an American Shad in the local river today- a first for me and quite a surprise- had to look it up as it looked like a skinny pogie! Plenty of small bass around and one confirmed 39" fish landed just offshore by a boat fisherman. Boat fish don't count!

so..... |
how did everyone do this weekend?
Saturday, I tried jigging for macs on Billingsgate Shoal, got nothing but dogs. Then trolled Storm macs in Barnstable Harbor for stripers--all shorts, as was the case with the majority of boats.
Sunday, I got some nice size winter flounder in Scituate Harbor on worms.
haven't been to the North Shore yet this season...anybody hit Magnolia or Flat Rock yet?
