TIPS FOR THE
FISHERMAN!
Did you know
that a little preventative maintenance performed
on your reels after each fishing trip can prevent major problems in the long
run? Rinse off your reels with fresh water after each trip. Every couple of
trips, take the time to oil your reels, A couple of drops of oil in the
fittings will keep your reels running smoothly.
To check for worn
guides, take a Q-tip and run it along the inside of the guides. If the cotton
on the Q-tip catches, then the guide should be changed.
Rusted hooks should
be changed as they present problems. Rusted hooks are weak and cause lost fish
as well as infection id you should get stuck.
Jig fishermen can
prevent losing jig by simply tying the hook to the jig with a piece of line that
is lighter than the running line from the reel. If the jig gets hung up on the
botton, the lighter line will break before the running line and you will only
lose the hook. The connecting loop must be checked frequently as it will wear
and need to be changed.
Surf fishermen
should bait your rigs before you leave for the beach. Package your baited rigs
in zip-lock plastic bags and carry them in a soft sided cooler. When the time
comes to change your bait, just change your rig. This way eliminates the need
to carry bait and knives. It's quick and easy rigging.
Night fishermen use
balloons instead of floats for keeping track of bait. Small light sticks can
be placed inside the balloon to illuminate it for easy viewing.
