RIGGING SECRETS OF THE SUCCESSFUL!

Added Attraction Of The Chunked Bait. It is the job of the fisherman to rig his bait so that they become irresistible to the fish they are trying to attract. This is a challenge and can be somewhat tricky if the fisherman succeeds in keeping the bait looking and acting natural. With a little effort, this can be accomplished. Successful fishermen will address as many of the senses as possible The best way to address the senses is by the way the bait is rigged and presented.

In order to excite as many senses as you can, take time and care in preparing your bait, Surf fishermen are notorious for cutting a bait and merely jabbing the hook through it. This may get the attention of a passing fish, but nothing is peeking the curiosity of the fish. Put your bait in the freezer for a few minutes so it starts to freeze. This will make handling much easier. Next, cut your bait into chunks that will match the fish you are after. Once the chunk of bait has been cut, take your knife and peel the skin off the chunk about 3/4 the way around the chunk. This will leave a thin slice of the skin attached to the chunk. This skin is very important. It will wave in the current making the chunk move viable and looking closer to a real bait fish. Also, any movement under water will send off vibrations off and will be picked up along the lateral line of the predator fish helping it zero in on its target.

By cutting the bait in this manner we have made it easier for the fish to smell the cut bait. We have made it easier to see by elongating the bait. Helped it to zero in on its target. All the additional steps you have taken to prepare you bait will pay off in your scoring on more and larger fish. Is it worth the extra time to properly prepare the bait? You bet it is!

Another secret to help you succeed in your quest to reap the benefits of fishing. Once you have rigged your baits on the proper size of leader that is compatible to the gear you are using, wind you leader and place your rig into a zip loc plastic bag. Place your supply of rigged bait bags in the freezer until the bait is frozen solid. When fishing the beach during a night tide, take a supply of zip loc bags and put them into an insulated lunch bag for transporting to the beach. Once set up for fishing and darkness has set in, it is much easier to place a rig on your snap swivel rather than trying to bait a hook or prepare a bait. It's all about simplicity. As the old saying goes, "Keep it simple stupid".

We need to get chum down to where the fish are, especially when fishing the beach! This has always posed a problem for most all of the beach brigade. This problem can be relatively easy to solve if you want to take a little time in preparing your solution. You need to make a small delivery system for delivering your chum to the fish zone you are targeting and this can be done easily. Take a 35 mm film canister and drill a series of small holes around the can and on the top and bottom, making sure there is one hole in the center of the top and bottom for your line. This now becomes your chum pot, an under water chum delivery system. In order to place your chum pot at the proper position slide your line and place it through the center hole on the top and the center hole on the bottom. Fill your chum pot with chum and position on your line. I prefer a distance of 12 to 18 inches above the hook. Make your chum pot secure by placing a split shot at the top and bottom of the pot to secure it. As the chum is released into the water it will form a chum line at the same level as your baited hook. This will lead a predator right to your offering. Although fresh chum can be used in this system, the new dried chum is a perfect match for this style of chumming system. Remember that larger holes will be needed for fresh chum and smaller holes are suitable for the dried variety. Also, the larger holes will allow for a faster dispersing of your chum.

When fishing the rocks during a night tide, do you have trouble following your bait? Try this to keep a better eye on your bait position. Instead of using a plastic or foam float, use a small, kids penny balloon secured to a fish finder to control the depth of your bait. If you have young kids at home this might be difficult to convince your kids to give up part of their stash. As a matter of fact, the last time I went to the local variety store to stock up on balloons, a little girl who was not more than three or four, looked at me. Then turned to her mother and asked her, "Mommy isn't that big guy too old to be playing with balloons?". Place a small light stick in the balloon. This will allow you to follow the movement of the bait making it less likely for your bait to get into the rocks and fail to entice hungry predators. The fish finder will allow you to control the depth of the bait keeping it above the rocks by adding a bit of pressure to your line, by raising your rod tip, to raise your bait above sub surface structure.

Are you a live eel fisherman that has problems with mammoth eel tangles? Try this method for solving the eel tangle that frustrates us all. When you hook an eel in the mouth like we were all taught to do, the problems generally begin. Whenever an eel swims the line will be positioned right beside the eel, making it easy for the eel to become entangled in your own fishing line. Relax, the problem has been solved. To eliminate this frustrating consequence of live eel fishing. hook your eel in the tail. This will allow the eel to swim away and keep the fishing line behind the eel, eliminating tangles, cursing and swearing. Place the hook about 3 or 4 inches from the end of the eel's tail and be sure that you have a rag to wipe the slime off your arm. You will be the recipient of the eel curl. This is when the eel curls itself around your arm and slims you. If you try this method, keep in mind the predator will take the eel head first. You must wait for the eel to turn the eel and swallow the eel until it reaches the hook in the tail, before you strike the eel. To avoid the confusion of just when to strike the fish, you can be eliminated the guess work by switching to a circle hook. It takes away the guess work because you do not set the hook.

More effective largemouth bass fishing during pre dark and dark periods. A sure fire way to increase the productivity of night fishing is to fish the surface waters around sub surface structure. Most anglers switch to poppers because they break up the still waters of the night. This can also be done when fishing with night crawlers. The night crawler becomes an effective surface bait when it is inflated with a bit of air. To do this you can use a syringe ir a sharpened football needle connected to a small plastic bottle. Carefully inflate the crawler and let it float and wiggle on the surface of the still night waters. As the worm squirms it sends out vibrations that are picked up as a fish in trouble through the lateral line of a predator. Be prepared for an explosive strike. This is also a very effective method to use during the summer and fall period when vegetation is thick. Inflate your night crawler and present it on a sliding sinker rig. This will allow you to float the worm above the grass, making it more easily viable to a hungry bass. You can add a bead to your line allowing the worm to rise to a pre determined height. Tie a small piece of waxed dental floss to your line to the desired height. The dental floss should be tied in a figure eight knot around your line so that will stop the bead and still flow freely through your line guides of your rod.

One way to make a more effective tube worm. Tubes will become more effective if you can get a smell track down to the tube. This can be accomplished by cutting a natural sponge into small squares and soaking them in bunker oil. Once the sponges are well soaked take one or two cubes that have been soaked and place them in the end of the tube. As the tube travels through the water the scent will be released sending out a small scent track making it easier for a predator to track down your offering. This technique works well and can result in significant catches. In combination with a live sea worm, the "tube ‘n worm" combination becomes deadly.

One of the fishing problems that are frequently brought up is the problem of softer baits like herring falling off the hook. This is an inherent problem when using some of the softer but effective baits. Herring is a soft bait, is very popular but falls off the hook easily. This problem can be solved easily by burying the hook in the bait and securing it by using a thin elastic. The elastic will hold the bait securely in place without "spooking" the fish or causing excessive caution on the part of the fish.

Surf fishermen seem to always be plagued by a short rod and reel combination. This is because most fishermen do not have multiple combinations. This problem can be solved without much trouble. The solution lies in the sand spike. Instead of the standard three foot spike, stop by the home center and pick up a piece of PVC pipe. Cut it into a five or six foot section and use it for a sand spike. Your rod tip will be higher just because your rod is sitting higher off the sand. This will keep your line above the first breaker eliminating sideways line movement and trash tangles because the first breaker is crossing through your line.

Ice fishermen are relieved by the solution to halt tip-up hole and bait bucket freeze up! What an easy solution to the bait bucket freeze up. Winter fishing is difficult enough without fighting ice covered bait to get a shiner. Paint you bait bucket and cover black. You will be using "solar power" to heat your bucket and slow or prevent ice production. A positive side effect is also realized. When handling the bait, the water is not freezing and is easier on the hands. To slow or prevent ice hole freeze ups. Use a square of tar paper to cover the hole. Cut a slit in the tar paper to slide the tip up into so that your tar paper covers the hole. Again, solar heat continues to work for you.

Ridges, holes and structure can be found by ice fishermen! Ice fishermen can easily inspect the bottom of a frozen lake by using a fish finder. If you are going to exercise this technique, make sure you bring along a torch so that you can melt an area for the transducer. This system works well if you make notes and file them for summer use. Laminate notes and maps to keep the dry during all seasons and fishing trips. Keep a log of every fishing trip and location you try.

There are many things that you can do to improve your fishing score. Just because it is not a well known practice don't ignore it, it just might work. Try out your theory, you just might start a hot, new trend
